
Agua de Horchata for the Holidays
Horchata is not only one of the most traditional and delicious aguas in México but has also become a favorite flavor in the US. With the holiday season coming up, Vamos Foods is sharing with you a very easy recipe so you can wow your family.
What you’ll need:
0.44 gallons of water (2 litros de agua)4 cinnamon sticks (4 rajas de canela)
½ a cup of sugar (1/2 taza de azúcar)
1 cup of White Rice (1 taza de arroz blanco)
1 can of gluten free evaporated milk (1 lata de leche evaporada gluten-free)
The Prep:
- You’ll want to start off by rinsing the rice with cold water
- Boil 32oz of water in a pot with the rice, and turn off the heat
- Let it rest until the water turns cold for 5 minutes
- In another pot, boil 2 cups of water with the 4 cinnamon sticks for 2 minutes
- Let it rest until the water turns cold
- Blend the rice with the water, the cinnamon water and only 1 cinnamon stick
- Use a thin strainer to pour the blended mix into another container
- Add the can of gluten free evaporated milk to the previous mix
- Add ½ a cup of sugar into the mix
- Final step is to pour ice and cinnamon powder into the agua
